I feel guilty for not reflecting... I don't do it because I avoid introspection in case I find out something I don't like... Ever heard "Whole Lot of Nothing" by The Methadones? I think the 2nd verse in particular is about me...

I like your review of the year! If I tried to do that, it would be very confused and I would miss obvious things out! I don't reflect much.

I only read this quickly because I don't have much time, but I can identify. Being a Christian socialist can be tough, because we get it from both sides. I originally left the SWP over this, although I rejoined because the party has changed since 9-11 and is now striving to be the left party which practices religious tolerance.

Mmm...my friends certainly would be surprised as I've never talked to them about it! To be frank, I've never really got the impression that my friends think of me as the sort of person to have relationships, never mind problems with them. To put it differently, my friends by and large seem to think that I'm one of those people who was 'just meant' more…

The cycle of readings used by the various Christian denominations is something I should really make an effort to fins out more about. I *think* that the Catholics and the Methodists have the same three-yearly cycle, which sometimes - but not always - coincides with that used by the Church of England.
On the matter of Biblical translati more…

We had that Gospel reading too. I think the Anglican and Catholic churches have pretty much everything synchronised these days!
Our vicar is also called Peter, and he's my dad:)
I agree with what you said about needing to use correct linguistics. We also need to take note of a lot of the footnotes and alternative transla more…

I think if you did discuss this with your friends, they'd be quite surprised and want to help you get over it. They would say they've never perceived any barrier.
If you really can't do this, at least discuss it with God. I'm sure you do:)
I'm about to find out whether your last statement is true:) It wasn't even a bad more…

For the sake of completeness, the confusion can be explained as follows: old Jerusalem was a walled city with a number of gates to allow people in and out. These people included merchants with goods-laden camels. Come the Roman period, the local governor was keen to monitor the coming and going of goods so that the correct tax could be levied. Thank you for sharing your interest. Yes, it isn't only what we ' say ' it's how we ' say ' what we mean to ' say '.

Far too considered a comment for me not to comment on it myself!
In terms of not being able to stand up for oneself in a non-confrontational way, that's a really good way of putting into words a predicament I've known more that once.
In terms of being more at ease in addressing a group than in personal situations (particu more…

I totally agree with the above commenter. I have the same problem as you. Although I have a steady boyfriend, I'm not very good at relationships because I don't know how to stick up for myself without causing an argument, and my relations with the outside world are odd. I would have no problem standing up and speaking in front of a room, say, bu more…

This is *just* the sort of thing I need to keep in mind; I know that that's a good interpretation of reality; my real weakness is lapsing into a superficially comforting faulty interpretation which ultimately just makes a bad mood worse. more…

I would suggest that that it is wise to never judge a book by its cover, nor rush where angels fear to tread.
Better that you possibly circulate a little more, always be as pleasant as possible and be sure to keep your personal standards at the usual high level.

Start dwelling on the sunnier dispositions available to you and concentrate on enjoying interactions and friendships; they all hve more substance than shallow, flirtatious experiences, which as you say, don't work for you. If that's not you, don't try to do it. Most people who play those games are not very secure in themselves, you may perceive t more…
