I *think* that the Catholics and the Methodists have the same three-yearly cycle, which sometimes - but not always - coincides with that used by the Church of England.

On the matter of Biblical translations used in public worship, the Catholic Church in England and Wales currently takes its readings from the Jerusalem Bible. I've yet to hear anyone have much good to say about the JB, but we're stuck with it for the time being! I agree with what you said about needing to use correct linguistics. We also need to take note of a lot of the footnotes and alternative translations, as sometimes they might not be perfect, but offer clues as to the meaning. There was something like this - a footnote in the NIV and Barclay's translation - which added a lot to Sunday's Gospel, but I can't remember what it was! Will try and remember to ask my dad.
These people included merchants with goods-laden camels. Come the Roman period, the local governor was keen to monitor the coming and going of goods so that the correct tax could be levied. This was difficult in the Jerusalem of the time as the gates were wide with many camels coming or going at any one time.

The Romans created a new passing point in the walls of Jerusalem. This was so narrow that only one camel could come or go at a time, making it much easier to tally goods and levy taxes. Because this passing point was so narrow, it was known as the Needle, making the actual hole in the city walls the Eye of the Needle.

Still worth noting, though, that it wasn't that easy for a camel to pass through the Eye of the Needle...

In response to:A rattling good sermon!

Thank you for sharing your interest. I have the same problem as you. Although I have a steady boyfriend, I'm not very good at relationships because I don't know how to stick up for myself without causing an argument, and my relations with the outside world are odd. I would have no problem standing up and speaking in front of a room, say, but I find personal relationships difficult. I always feel like there's a barrier there. Friends say this is all on my side and they don't perceive it or find it hard to get close to me, but it doesn't make me feel any better:)

I hope you find the one for you:) And, before you do, remember that being single is fun, relationships suck unless they're perfect, so don't dive into one unless you're certain that a) you want that person now, and b) you'll be able to leave them if you ever don't anymore. I've been stuck too many times in my life feeling that I don't want my boyfriend, but I can't leave him 'cos he hasn't actually done anything wrong, and I'll never find anyone better...
